I used a variation of the daisy chain technique to create the beaded chain in the classic Y necklace shape. Above the hieroglyph bead is a pair of round woods beads with a cracked desert finish. Wood beads and cobalt blue glass rounds with a mirror-like iridescent finish decorate the length of the necklace in a simple repeating pattern. In each set of blue beads is a pair bordered with pale ivory colored seed beads. I have finished the necklace with a beaded button and loop clasp woven with matching beads.
Dimensions: The pendant section is 6 cm (2.4 inches) long. Each necklace chain is 24 cm (9.4 inches) long, for a total length of 48 cm (18.8 inches). The beaded button measures 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) across.
The contrast of blue and orange gives this necklace lots of personality. The hieroglyph bead features several symbols, including the crook (ruler or prince), water, and a bird similar to the Egyptian symbol for red.
Materials used in this necklace include high quality Japanese glass seed beads, Czech pressed glass beads, and lightweight dyed wood beads. I weave all of my jewelry with durable fused nylon thread, using multiple thread passes for lasting strength.
This one of a kind pendant comes wrapped in tissue, packed securely with clean, repurposed bubble wrap or foam sheet, and shipped in a durable Canada Post cushion mailer.
