Above the cartouche-like bead with gold hieroglyph designs is a trio of Crystallized Swarovski bicones in emerald and olive green. The length of the necklace features a repeating pattern of green crystals and bright turquoise glass cubes with jet black seed beads to either side. Throughout the pattern, rich brown topaz faceted glass beads are bordered with dusty olive seed beads. I have finished with necklace with a beaded button and loop clasp in matching colors.
Dimensions: The pendant section is 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) long. Each side of the necklace is 22 cm (8.7 inches) long, for a total length of 44 cm (17.4 inches). The beaded button measures 1.7 cm (0.7 inches) across.
Both the colors and patterns featured in this necklace create a beautiful Egyptian look. The turquoise colored cubes set between black beads is reminiscent of striped patterns found in many Egyptian artworks and jewelry designs. The jewel-like greens and browns add a regal quality, inspired by the great value of plants like flax and papyrus in everyday life on the Nile.
The hieroglyph bead features several symbols, including the crook (ruler or prince), water, and a bird similar to the Egyptian symbol for red. These hieroglyph beads are made in the traditional Czech style, and are very similar to Egyptian revival beads made during the art deco period of the 1920’s.
Materials used in this necklace include high quality Japanese glass seed beads, machine cut Austrian crystals by Swarovski, and Czech glass fire polish beads. I weave all of my jewelry with durable fused nylon thread, using multiple thread passes for lasting strength.
This one of a kind pendant comes wrapped in tissue, packed securely with clean, repurposed bubble wrap or foam sheet, and shipped in a durable Canada Post cushion mailer.
