Most furniture in high priced stores is made of pressed materials with thin veneers. Such materials are easily damaged and are difficult to repair. They also often give off unhealthy fumes.
The bed is shipped in pieces that lay flat in the box. This enables better protection of the product and lower shipping costs. The few steps of assembly are performed by the buyer. This design is also helpful for people who move because it permits more compact shipping and storage.
The wood used to build this furniture is a renewable resource that was harvested from farm land near the shop that builds the furniture. All of the steps from log to finished furniture are performed by the local crafts people.
