The pin measures about 2 1/4- 2 3/8" (5.8 - 6.1cm) long and about 7/8-1 1/8" (2.2- 2.9cm) across the widest part. The stick pin part with the spiral on top that slips through the main design to secure the pin is about 3" (7.8cm) long.
This is a thin gauge, light and delicate pin and wouldn't work well to support a heavy shawl. It is part of our "Little "pin series that would work well with light, lacy fingering weight knitting.
We also make a thicker, heavier gauge sterling silver pin that is in the shawl pins section of our shop and other versions in light weight aluminum ,copper and brass:

It can be worn as a brooch on a sweater too!
You can gently bend the outer edges of the main piece to create a looser or tighter fit with the pin.
The pin in the pictures is a representative pin and not the exact same one that you will receive. We hand make each pin and try hard to make them look the same. There may be some minor differences but the one you will receive will look very similar to the one you see in the pictures.
We make a similar design as a cross pendant and earrings in the Sterling Silver Wire Jewelry section of our shop:

and as an ornament:

All our jewelry comes wrapped in colorful tissue paper, in a nice gift box and tied with a bow ready for gift giving.
