TECHNIQUE BACKGROUND:
Ribbonwork dates back centuries, think Marie Antoinette, but was in it's heyday in the 1920's. A romantic feminine time when hair adornments, dresses, shoes and hats were all embellished with beautiful ribbonwork flowers combined with laces, trims and feathers. By the end of the nineteenth century most women knew how to create these beautiful ribbonwork flowers. So the need for detailed instructions went away and the art was taught hands on and if you've ever played the game rumor you know what happens to the story at the end of the line. Sadly, over time, the detailed instructions were lost and the art faded. For awhile anyway...
All of my hair accessories are hand created ribbonwork flowers made with vintage techniques. The backs are lined, fabric edges singed or treated to prevent fraying. The pearls, Swarovski crystals and seed beads are hand sewn. I pay great attention to detail. No two are alike. Color varies between monitors.
