an vintage setting serves as the foundation of this collaged ring: a nest like tangle of twisting vines / limbs/ veins cradle a sterling "crystal", its lovely, naturally formed facets culminating in a terminated point. flanking either side of the ring as silent guardians of this precious "egg" are two hummingbird skulls, sculpted into the ring so their long, nectar culling beaks curve with the ring shaft.
this nest echoes my interest in alchemy, i'm suggesting the many phases of the alchemical processes in which the creation of the 'philosopher's stone' occurs. here, this stone is the craddled "crystal" acting as the final product known for having magical and metaphysical properties. on the other hand, i'm using these elements to make a physical metaphors for i'm suggesting the process of individuation in which the psyche becomes truly realized and unites with the body.
the hummingbirds are a stand in for 'nigerdo' or the blackening process in which the self confronts the darkness within. birds/ crows are generally used to symbolize this process and here they act as sentinels to the symbol of an achieved "wholeness", or the philosopher's stone.
psychologically whole.
here the shadowlands of the underworld converge with the darkness of the psyche to reveal a special crystal, cast entirely of sterling silver.
the crystal is carved out within for weight balance, making this striking ring comfortably wearable.
IMPORTANT:
please send me your *CORRECT* size at time of ordering, i can't start the ring until i have this info. i can make half and quarter sizes as well. it is best to have your finger professionally sized at any local jewelry store that sells engagement rings. if this is for a gift, you can also have a ring sized to find out the proper ring size without the recipient being present (if you can manage to snag a ring without them noticing ! ) ONLINE CHARTS HAVE PROVED TO BE EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE. i do re-size rings for a small fee.
