This is Gub, he is a little faerie. He was made through the lithographic printing process. Printed on cork paper, this paper is actually made from cork with a paper fiber backing. The paper comes in a sheet of random sized blocks of cork so I cut those blocks out to use for printing so that each print had an unbroken square or rectangle of cork. The cork has beautiful shades of warm and cool browns like slate.
Lithography is the process of printing on a limestone block. You first grind the stone so it is clean and level. then you draw on the stone using a special oil based crayon. Once you have completed your design the stone must go through multiple steps to prepare it for printing. Throughout the years new forms of lithography have been created, such as using aluminum and polyester plates. This print was made from a stone block.
