This piece was inspired from my love of nature and living here in my part of the woods in the ozarks of Missouri
This mixed fibers wall hanging is the first in a series of bears.
The middle panel fabric is a piece of rust dyed on reclaimed cotton fabic that began my inspiration; as this piece looked like mountains and valleys to me. I needle felted silk noil, alpaca, and various wool rovings. The bear is made from reclaimed wool that I felted and then needle felted over with alpaca, silk noil, and a little churro wool. To bring the piece together I bordered with pieced quilt blocks and a little bit of my sun painted fabrics.I also fused down tulle over the center panel. I also added in a little log cabin using artists pens.
The backing is cotton that I hand dyed with the proper mordant process and onion skins. I hand quilted with cotton batting and any stitching involved in the piece is all hand sewn, no machine stitching anywhere on the piece.
I also added a generous hanging sleeve so this could accomadate up to a 4" piece of dowel or a neat found stick you may have from your walk in the outdoors. I added my label and also a handmade button. This wall hanging measures 21 1/2" by 22 1/2" approximately.
I love to use sellers here on etsy for some of my supplies. The silk noil and alpaca came from Cathy at http://www.etsy.com/shop/cashmerebunny and my handmade button was made for me by LeAnn at http://www.etsy.com/shop/uniquebuttons These are both excellent sellers with quality products and good customer service
