This One of a Kind sculptural Sea Urchin Vase is inspired by my huge real sea-urchin collection of all colors and sizes that I collected through the years during my vacations in Greece. It holds a nice size bouquet and you can also use the additional holes at the top to insert individual stems through them for a fuller look.
I started making these in the early 90'ies as decorative while still in Greece.
Hand made on the potter's wheel and hand decorated with hundreds of spikes made with my favorite porcelain.
It measures 6" in diameter and 4 1/2" high.
The surface is glazed with a smooth buttery slightly crazed white glaze which is very soft and sensual to the touch and hues of a metallic black green drippy glaze over it. It gives the impression of a real sea-urchin shell although it is not as fragile as a real one... in fact it's really durable and hard.
