The car appliqued and freehand embroidered is a classic French icon, car of my childhood, a Renault 4 Quatrelle. It is fully loaded with suitcases on the roof ready to cross borders and explore.
The body of the car is made from natural linen, and appliqued onto green vintage floral fabric. The suitcases are made from various recycled and new fabrics.
The embroidery is done using a basic sewing machine fitted with a freehand embroidery foot. I cut the fabric to be appliqued and draw freehand straight onto the fabric using black thread.
This piece is mounted on a medium 8"/21cm embroidery hoop (made in Britain).
The last photo is to help you get an idea of the size of this hoop.
Ready to hang.
Each hoop is unique due to the nature of freehand machine embroidery, which I think adds to the charm. There will be slight variations from the photos shown.
