A rare find, this late 19th century Majolica oyster plate exactly resembles ones made by Minton in England that I found on the internet, although it is not marked. Its six recesses for oysters (or scallops) are alternately pink and white, with pale yellow fluted shells and seaweed in between. The sauce well in the center is emerald green, bordered by tiny scallop shells. The plate is 9 3/8" (24 cm) in diameter. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
