A rich mixture of lacemaking and hand embroidery techniques come together in this gold and garnet neoclassical-inspired heart necklace. ● Design and Techniques ●

As with all of my designs, I created the textile motifs entirely by hand, using my signature lacemaking techniques and original patterns.
On a richly textured, heart-shaped base of deep red silk, I've stitched a dainty bouquet of handmade lace motifs. Each element was created with 18k gold foil thread and the tiniest of crochet hooks. A six-petalled flower, trimmed in vintage seed beads, faceted garnet rondelles and a vintage rhinestone, rests in the center and is surrounded by a spray of lace leaves. The leaves are hand embroidered with tiny metal paillettes containing 24k gold, and faceted bronze seed beads. The paillettes are nearly identical to those used extensively in the embroideries of the Napoleonic era and provide a wonderful sparkle.
Faceted pyrite stones in a gunmetal grey color complete the intricate design. A flawless pearl drop hangs below and is topped with a lace bead cap. The back of the pendant is adorned with a small lace rosette.
The heart is suspended from a dainty 14k gold filled chain, dotted with links of garnet and pyrite stones, and fastening with a lobster claw clasp.
