Articulated, taxidermy spider skeleton made from: vervet monkey skull, cat/bird/raccoon/deer bones, walnut stain, red oil paint, bone glue, and wire. This articulation is mounted on a maple plaque. The plaque is about 22x16", and has been painted a slightly glossy black with oil-based pigment. Insurance and all the extreme packaging required to safely ship him are included in the price. I cannot ship him internationally due to import/export law.
I acquire my materials from such varied sources; every creature I work on has a story, a feeling. This fellow was a bit frightening, spawning a run of hauntings and bad dreams for me. He and his mate are haunted art, and have a vitality of their own. They're probably best suited for someone who enjoys horror and morbid art. I worked hard to get his body positioned so that he appeared to be ready to possibly leap, and bite.
His skull is the skull of a vervet monkey; legally imported to the US, impeccably cleaned, and then stained and painted with a veve. Vervets are not usually humanely killed, they are often hunted as either a nuisance animal, or for meat. I think that the death of this animal, and the veve I chose to paint on him, is responsible for the dark energy he carries. A veve is an invocation, a sigil meant to entice a specific spirit. His veve is the mark of papa legba, who is the guardian of doorways- and the black rider of voodoo legend.

The cat and raccoon bones which make up the larger legs were collected from a road strike, then disinfected, and stained before articulation. The chicken bones were acquired from a neighbor, who raises chickens almost as pets. One of her aged hens became dinner, and she deboned these for me.
All the bones have been degreased, sanitized, and then stained to match. The vertebrae which make up the spdier's body are from a hunting kill, the animal was hunted for food, and its bones were passed on to me.
This is my absolute favorite creature I have built, and I would like to see him in the proper environment. If you plan to purchase him, feel free to contact me; I will dicker on the price slightly for the right potential buyer.
