From the "Light of Sovereignty" series of mandalas that evoke the passage of the sun around the year through eight traditional seasonal festivals.
Beltane is on May eve. It is a celebration of the beginning of the warm months of summer, and is epitomised by the appearance of Hawthorn ("whitethorn", "May blossom"), which begins to lie heavy and aromatic on the fresh green branches in hedgerow and woodside.
The mandala is composed of the symbolic forms of the energy of trees and plants that resonate with this festival of abundance and fertility.
