This beautifully handcrafted book is the result of many, many hours of dreaming, designing, cutting, and machine and hand stitching. “The Quiet Kitchen” is my original concept (developed and designed entirely by me over the summer of 2011), and combines my love for felt play food and play kitchens with the simple beauty of hand sewn quiet books. Perhaps the most exciting part is that this traveling, miniature play kitchen will allow little chefs to practice the art of “play food” practically anywhere!
This darling little book is perfect for keeping children occupied and quiet in all sorts of circumstances: airplanes, the doctor's office, church services, long car rides, or anywhere else children need something to help them be still and quiet. “The Quiet Kitchen” is filled with details (from the hand embroidered child's artwork on the fridge to the bottle of dish soap by the sink, to the vase of yellow daffodils on the kitchen table!) that give this book an extra special touch. The vivid colors and special little details are bound to delight and entertain children for hours.
Size of book – 8” Wide x 9 1/2” Tall x 2” Thick (cover when closed); 15” Wide x 9 1/2” Tall (when laying open)
Size of pieces – The tea kettle is 3” W x 2 ½” T, and most of the food pieces are approximately the size of a penny. Due to the small size of these pieces, “The Quiet Kitchen” is best suited to children ages 4-10 and is NOT for children under three. (The food might look yummy enough to eat, but trust me, it isn't!)
Page One – Refrigerator (there are pockets sewn inside the doors to store food pieces!), and Oven (the door opens for baking)
Page Two – Kitchen counter with stove top, utensil canister (spatula and wooden spoon fit inside), and toaster
Page Three – More counter space with a kitchen sink full of soapy water (the top edge of the bubbles in the sink is left open, creating a pocket in which to “wash” dishes) , and fruity canisters
Page Four – Tulip adorned table with one place setting opposite a white kitchen cabinet (there is a large pocket sewn inside cabinet door to safely store dishes and food)
Movable dishes and food pieces:
Tea kettle (robins egg blue w/ cherries embroidered on the front)
Spatula (Gray w/ black handle)
Frying Pan (Orange)
Sponge for washing dishes (blue)
Slice of Cheese Pizza
