This steampunk necklace features a magnificent large clock key. It hangs on a 22 inch (55.88 cm) long handmade steel chain. The chain is made of 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) oval links made from 16 gauge annealed steel wire.
My handmade chains are meticulously put together, piece by piece. I hammer and polish the wire, then shape and cut the links, then connect them and line them up very precisely. It takes many hours to make one of these beautiful chains.
I use steel wire on many of my pieces of jewelry. It has the 'old world' look I love. I love how it feels and sounds, and I love its strength. I sand and polish the wire with paste wax to protect it from rusting, on every piece I make. However, it is not stainless steel, and if it gets wet and is not dried off quickly and thoroughly, it will rust. I highly recommend you not wear these pieces in situations where they are likely to get wet.
