Made from a naturally-corroded nut found on the beach at Ramsay Harbour in the windswept, celtic Isle of Man, this iron ring is set with a beautiful natural orangey-red zircon (a natural gemstone, not to be confused with cubic zirconia). Photographs can never do justice to gemstones and this one is an unusual colour.
Perhaps surprisingly, the ring is very comfortable to wear. The threads on the inside have been removed and polished flat and the smooth, corroded outer surface feels good against the skin. There are no settings to catch on anything as the stone is set directly into the surface of the iron. I wear one of these myself, even in the workshop and rarely take it off.
Iron is safe against the skin, leaving only a slight brown deposit (rust) which lessens the more you wear the ring. It has to be said that this ring should probably not be worn by anyone with allergies to low-density metals as the metal is found and I do not know what other metals may have been alloyed with the iron.
The last photograph in the set shows me wearing my own version of this ring, which is set with a garnet and is not the ring offered for sale here. The photograph is just to give an idea of how it looks when worn.
This ring is UK size T 1/2, US 10 and cannot be sized.
