This handmade necklace features a pure copper ring. Known as an "eternity ring", this metal circle is all fused and forged by my hand. Created with solid copper, it was heated until molten and fused. No solder was used. This is a fun but tricky technique that I have worked on for years. I have given the ring a hammered, rustic texture. The patina adds to the rustic character of this piece.
The ring is attached to a sterling silver cable chain with sterling silver wire and bead accents. The chain is an oval, textured chain with an patina that goes well with the ring focal.
The necklace has a hand finished closure of a sterling silver lobster clasp with bead accents. The clasp hooks into a small ring that was created by fusing fine silver.
This necklace is just under 20 inches long. That includes the charm.
Metals used are solid copper, genuine sterling and fine silver.
Eternity rings have many meanings for many different people. They can symbolize a commitment, a love, a partnership, a faith and eternal everlasting life. The meaning for the ring is as individual as the person wearing it. Eternity rings are personal and can be a very loving gesture. With the necklace you can have a much more expansive variety of meaning. It's great for those who don't wear rings as well.
This necklace is so simple and classic in design it can easily be dressed up or worn casually as well. I have made one for myself and wear it for days without taking it off. I do wear mine to bed and in the shower without any trouble. However, if you wear jewelry for days on end, you will eventually want to clean or polish it to remove dirt and oils that are left from the environment or your skin.
To clean or polish your copper eternity ring, simply give it a quick rub down with a very fine steel wool such as a 4x0 grade. If you prefer a shinier look, you may use a polishing cloth instead. They are widely available. I use and recommend Sunshine Brand cloths.
