Red Fox in the Snow - Quilt Fabric Art

Red Fox in the Snow is a one-of-a-kind artwork. I designed the pattern and sewed together individual cotton pieces, like a quilt top, but I have mounted the work on stretcher bars, rather than quilting it. It is 19 x 23".

Piecing everything, rather then appliqueing, gives the design more depth and the dimensional quality of the seams are emphasized by the mounting. The overall design reads as a whole, but each fabric piece has an individual story, revealed as you move closer.

The fox is caught in a moment of stillness, bright against the quiet snowy background. The fabrics are mostly abstract batik and Kaffe Fassett prints. The deeper colors are brown tree trunks and blue shadows on the snowy hill behind the fox. In the fox fabrics you will find wildflowers and persimmons and mermaids. The fox's eyes and nose are appliqued.
