A row of cabins front a lake with tall trees in the background. The artist has drawn his picture with oil pastels and then has incised the heavily applied oil with a stylus so as to create a textured piece.
This art piece comes from a portfolio of 1950s artwork collected by a woman who lived in California's gold country. She was an artist herself, as well as a collector and art teacher. Some of the pieces are signed and dated [1957 & 59]; others were unsigned. But each piece represents an attempt at something unique in design or new in technique. All, in some way, were experimental and avant-garde for their time.
