A very beautiful German porcelain Cabinet demitasse coffee cup and saucer duo made in Bavaria in the art deco era of the 1930s.
The duo is decorated in a rich cobalt blue with white panels ornamented with gold criss-crossed lines. More gold floral emblems are printed onto the blue background with further gold scrolled triangular panels inside the cup, and the whole is covered in a rainbow pearlescent lustre sheen.
Inside the cup is a decal depicting the SS Hamburg, a transatlantic cruise ship that plied the Hamburg and New York crossing between 1926 and 1940, when she became a German naval accommodation ship. This would have been a commemorative souvenir piece probably sold to passengers on board the steamship, prior to 1940.
The duo is in excellent undamaged condition with no wear, and has probably never been used; the cup only is marked with a backstamp reading M & K, Bavaria, Made in Western Germany.
The cup measures 7 cm/2.75" across and the saucer is 12 cm/4.75" in diameter; they weigh 138 gms, and the estimated packaged weight is 500 gms.
