The dense pearl focal point is about 11" long from ring to ring and the freshwater pearls, round, flattened and top-drilled, each average 5mm in diameter. The center front of the focal hangs down just about 3/4". The fresh berry color, a mixture of magenta, violet and dark pinks, has a lot of depth because there are subtle variations in the pearl colors.
Graduated dark gray sterling beads connect the pearl strands to the antique silver finished diamond shaped link. This finding links to a small textured metal ring (8 mm diam.) of the same antique silver color. The hand painted artisan made silk ribbon is shaded from a deep cool pink which is the same hue as the pearls to a warm pale gray--very unique! Edition size is 5 but there will be variations in the color and pattern of the hand painted silk ribbon. This piece was designed 9-2011. 2-15-12 there are 3 remaining pearl bibs in this design.
Notes about WillOaks Studio Pearl Bib Necklaces:
I began to develop this bib design structure for pearls a couple of years ago. Earlier versions used silver chain, crocheted silk chain, and beaded "chains" to hold this multistrand cluster of pearls.
Over a year ago, I discovered and began to use artisan dyed handmade silk ribbons to secure them. I love this approach because the "cluster" can be beautifully worn at different lengths from a high choker to a longer opera length. Since the handmade ribbons are around 40" long, when used double and tied in a knot or a bow, there are many different looks that can be achieved with these pieces. Some examples include formal wear with a bow in the back over a sleeveless gown; with a bow tied on the side with a semi-formal top; as a kind of ascot under a blouse or button down shirt, peeking from between collar; tied long and loose over a turtleneck sweater and worn with jeans.
Because pearls are a natural, variable material and dye lots will vary I often cannot get more of these pearl lot. So when they are sold out, that edition is usually complete.
I've been a huge fan of pearls for many years so I don't think they need to be saved just for formal wear (although they are certainly perfect worn this way!) I love them with business suits, with dresses or with a blouse and jeans. And my bib design can be adjusted to handle different necklines so has the versatility to move from the board room to the dance floor! Enjoy!!
