Sascha Brastoff Art Pottery Box
This beautiful midcentury box is by Sascha Brastoff (1918-1993), design leader of the 1950's. Decorated with a striking stylized bird in blue, green, white, gray and gold on a gradient black to gray background. One of his more hard to find patterns. The painted circular gold depressions give the appearance of jewels. A stunning piece well suited for the coffee table, night stand, etc. in your modern, midcentury or Hollywood home. Clean. 5-1/2" x 4" x 1-7/8" No chips/cracks. Some minimal faint scratches. Condition is excellent.
Sascha Brastoff led a very interesting and storied life. In 1947 he opened his first factory in Los Angeles. He delved into many areas of the arts and much can be read about him online. Here is just one of the many articles on his life:
