The Digital Stereoscope
From WillRockwell
For a time during the 19th century, most photographs were taken using a stereo technique, the camera had two lenses and exposed two images on the wet plate. Mathew Brady took his Civil War pictures in 3D. The Digital Stereoscope allows the viewer to see these original photos as they were meant to be seen, with the same depth as if you were standing at the scene. The Stereoscope comes with a library of 100 images, propelling the viewer back in time to the Victorian era. The pictures are arranged starting with a group which easily resolves into 3D, once your eyes are adjusted you will have no trouble with all the rest. Watch Ulysses S. Grant studying a map with his officers, feel the vertigo from a shot at the top of the unfinished Brooklyn Bridge, revisit the infamous 5 Points slum, which was torn down in 1894, see Abraham Lincoln in 3D, just as if you were sitting in front of him. The Digital Stereoscope comes with an infrared remote to step through the photos, that's it on top of the viewer. Once you are familiar with the device you may wish to upload your own stereo images. The experience of viewing these 3D photos is almost like entering a time machine, you will see the world as it was 150 years ago. The Digital Stereoscope is an original creation by Will Rockwell, and is signed and dated with an engraved plaque on the back.
