She knows she is different but she doesn't let that get in the way of finding most excellent friends wherever she goes. Her reality is expansive and surrounded not just what can be seen but what can be imagined. Trees grow hopeful in this realm, flowers blossom with promise renewed. Happiness prevails. Snacks are shared.
After all just because the others tell her pink haired girls don't exist doesn't mean she has to believe them when her experiences through her own dreams tell her otherwise. Of course this goes the other way too.
Dreamers always find a way to connect. It is what we do.
DETAILS
50" x 30" at the narrowest parts.
layered felted alpaca on the bottom, cotton gauze, alpaca again on top. They call this sort of process "nuno felting" or "laminate felting" because of the layering. It is luxuriantly thick. There are sparkles liberally interwoven throughout of a material known as "Angelina" or "angel fire".
The black and dark brown fibers of the piece are undyed natural alpaca - and the rest of the vibrant colors are hand dyed white alpaca or wool - using eco-friendly dyes.
Floor worthy with a non-slip pad (not included) or ready to hang on a wall.
Some more info
This cheerful run or wall hanging is hand made from the fibers of some of the softest creatures on the planet, alpacas and Merino wool sheep!
I hand dye the colors using eco-friendly dyes without any of the heavy metals usually associated with such vibrant colors. My acid is plain old vinegar, that helps bind the color molecules right into the fibers which I then rinse and rinse until all that's left are colors the animals dream of being! Then I wet felt up layers using time honored methods in fun new ways! It's a multi-stage process.

The Idea:
The elegance of the materials juxtaposed with the upbeat whimsy of the decoration combines into a one of a kind expression that elevates the mood of the beholder.
My Subjects:
Joy and happiness - featuring flora and fauna that all harken from gentle lands filled with hope and promise. While appearing fragile these pieces are amazingly tough. After all we're talking methods that have been used by native people in harsh climates for millennia! Soft and made from sustainable media - there is everything to love about this fun new interpretation of the concept of handbag.
My Process:
To form the main body of the piece fibers are coaxed to form a soft and exceptionally sturdy community by pushing and kneading them together. Sometimes with water sometimes without and always by hand. Colorful details are then layered on one at a time using a combination of specialized needles and more mooshing and coaxing.
My Fibers
Some of the alpaca I use comes from a dear friend who raises champion stock alpacas (judged mainly for their super soft fiber) right here in Kentucky. The other fibers, fine merino wool, angora, cashmere and fun metallics come from across the US and abroad (wool from English sheep, roving from Israeli cria) from other Etsy sellers (don't we all just LOVE Etsy!?).
How Soft?
Imagine the tummy of a kitten - the fluff on a chick - the noggin of a puppy.....that's how soft!
My Gratitude:
Every day I get to go into my studio and work on these pieces is a day I love and look forward to. Your buying one helps me continue having marvelous days and I think the happy energy I experience gets transferred right into each finished piece! I am so grateful to be able to do this, and I thank you sincerely for enjoying what I make and maybe even selecting something from me for your own collection. Thank you!
