From 'Simple English Wikipedia' -
"The Venus is not a realistic portrait but rather an idealization of the female figure. Her vulva, breasts, and swollen belly are very pronounced. This suggests a strong connection to fertility. Her tiny arms are folded over her breasts, and she has no visible face. Her head is covered with what might be coils of braids, eyes, or a kind of headdress. The lack of a face has prompted some archaeologists and philosophers to view the Venus as a 'universal mother.'"
A lovely buyer, who teaches Art and History, purchased the first Venus doll that I made, said "....to show my students how a neolithic artwork lives on in modern interpretations". And she had her on display at the Quinnipiac University, Connecticut :)
I designed and crocheted this Venus plush using a fine quality green superwash wool+nylon+other fibers blend yarn. The yarn has a gold metallic wrap. She measures about 5.5 inches (13.97cm) in height and 3.25 inches (8.26cm) at its widest part. Her belly measures about 10 inches (25.4cm ) around. She is stuffed with polyfill.
