A melancholy lady mourns before a seaside sunrise in this lovely Victorian illustration of 1846 by Daniel Maclise and C.G. Lewis.
The original black-and-white engraving is long out of copyright and in the public domain. I've remixed it with a modern twist by digitally hand-painting it, which took me around 8-10 hours.
And to complement the enchanting imagery, I've incorporated a quotation from the beautiful 1846 poem Self-Interrogation by Emily Brontë: "Then art thou glad to seek repose? Art glad to leave the sea, and anchor all thy weary woes in calm Eternity?"
This pretty print is perfect for the 21st-century lover of 19th-century art and poetry. It would look wonderful on the wall of a neo-Victorian parlor, romantic boudoir, or steampunk study.
