I took this photograph hiking on Barton Creek in Austin Texas with my German Shepherd, Hannah. It was January and seed pods and branches created wonderful calligraphic designs. I printed the image (via solar plate etching) on two layers of my handmade paper. The top layer is a cotton and flax combination I like to make with gulf muhly grass seeds in the vat to give it a rice paper quality. The backing paper is a natural bark colored gampi paper that I cooked and hand beat. I layered the papers because the sheets are so thin you can see through them. I enjoy the richness and depth the layering adds.
