The finished clutch will measure approx. 25cm/10" wide x 15cm/6" tall -a great, up-to-the minute shape, perfect for day or evening (For a smaller version of this clutch see my Mini Sunray Clutch pattern).
This design would suit medium to heavyweight satins, shantung, Dupion, brocade, jacquard, heavy polished cottons...or lighter weight fabrics with added reinforcement. A fantastic way to use vintage or reclaimed fabrics!

YOU WILL NEED:

*fabric for the clutch exterior: at least approx. a 30 x 90cm(12” x 36”) piece. If buying off the roll you will need a 30cm (12“) length.
*Fabric for lining: at least approx. 85 x 20cm (34” x 8”). If buying off the roll you will need a 20cm (8”) length.
*Mid-weight fusible woven interfacing: Required for Pocket & facings. In addition, all but the very stiffest fabrics will benefit from fusing interfacing to the entire front & back panels to add body. It is also advisible to reinforce the lining panels with a fusible interfacing, especially if using a slippy or lightweight lining fabric. Highly recommended: Pellon ShapeFlex Woven Fusible #SF-101 or Vilene Woven fusible G700. To cover both lining, exterior & all other required panels: if 90cm (35 1/2”) wide, 60cm(23 1/2”) length; if 51cm(20”) wide, 90cm(35 1/2”)length.
*Non-Fusible Stabilizer: For a firm, boxy clutch use a non-fusible Heavy-weight interfacing, such as “Vilene Extra-Heavy Sew-in???? (this comes in 90cm/35” width, you need 30cm/12” length) or “Pellon Peltex 70 Sew-in Ultra firm (this comes in 56cm/22” width -you need 36cm/14“ length). For a softer, more “pouchy” feel clutch try non-fusible Hair Canvas -a woven stabilizer used in tailoring.
*Zip: Closed end zip, minimum 30cm/12” length (longer is fine as the excess can be trimmed), 6mm (3/16th“) width teeth. The zip can be nylon or metal but it’s important that the teeth are not narrower than this.
*Hemming Tape: 1.5 -2.5cm (5/8” -1”) width fusible tape, such as “Wondaweb”.
*Tailor’s chalk or removable pencil for marking fabric
tools required: domestic sewing machine, scissors, scalpel, iron, needle & thread, chalk or pencil, pins.
There is no return on this item. All of the patterns I sell are my original designs. You may not sell or redistribute the pattern itself.
