This 5" x 7" print is an original intaglio print. The process of intaglio is started by taking a zinc plate and coating it with asphaltum. Using a needle tool I incised the lines of the lettuce into the plate exposing the metal below. The zinc plate was then dipped into a bath of acid. The asphaltum resists the acid and "eats away" or "etches the line deeper into the plate. When the line is deep enough it is now ready to hold ink. Ink is hand rubbed into incised lines. I like to do what is called a "dirty wipe" as it gives the print an old antique appearance. This print is an artist's proof and is printed on Somerset 100% archival paper. It is signed by the artist. The piece is unmatted and unframed. It comes in a clear plastic bag and carefully packaged to come straight to your door.
