Readers of North and South, Cranford,Wives and Daughters, and more will be familiar with Elizabeth Gaskell, better known as Mrs. Gaskell. Elizabeth Gaskell, 1810 –1865, was a British novelist and short story writer during the Victorian era. Her novels offer a detailed portrait of the lives of society, including the very poor, and so such were of interest to social historians as well as lovers of literature.
I created Mrs. Gaskell in sunny yellow dress with tiny white floral pattern, white braided trim at collar and sleeve cuffs, and I added a pretty floral shawl. Mrs. Gaskell has a detailed, hand painted face, soft reddish brown hair, and a lace cap bonnet with blue satin ribbon ties. For the final detailed touch, Mrs. Gaskell has a little replica of one of her well known literary works.
This unique miniature art doll stands at 4 1/2 inches tall, (11.4 cm) and is created from a special combination of wood, wire, paint, and clay.
