Materials: Bookboard, Lokta archival handmade paper, permanent archival ink, unlined bright white 70 lb text paper, and several feet of hand-waxed linen binding thread hand-dyed with roasted grains, and a snippet of text from a novel.
This journal is the third in a series of original print covers on luscious Lokta paper (from Nepal). On this particular cover I used a linocut of a sun and flower I made in September 2011 on a rectangle of light green Lokta paper. The entirety of the front and back cover were first covered with blue Lokta paper. Then I added a rectangle of hand-torn brown to the front cover to act as a sort of frame for the print and text. The text (cut from an old novel) reads "I found the smallest of flowers under a rock, and brought it away as a memento." The pages are hand-cut, rounded corners, with bookbinders thread hand-dyed (by me) with roasted grains. The Coptic style of stitch allows the book to open up flat, which is fantastic for writing, sketching, etc.
