Wooden spoons have been a fixture in kitchens for thousands of years for good reason. They are durable, easy to clean and don't impart any flavor to the food. In addition they don't scratch modern stick-proof finishes.
My spoons are hand carved in the Swedish tradition of using only hand tools, axes and knifes. I do not sand my spoons (except in cases where the technique demand it, such as kolrossing) leaving smooth, tiny tool marks on the handle and bowl showing that this was made by a person, not a machine. The spoon is polished by the edge of the knife, not an abrasive.
Wooden spoons should washed by hand and not put into the dishwasher. The heat of the drying cycle will desiccate the spoon and could cause the wood to crack. If you wish to renew the finish on this spoon use any food-safe oil such as mineral oil or butcher's block oil. You can use vegetable oils, but they can turn rancid.
This spoon is non-reactive and can be used with acidic condiments.
