A lovely pair of old books which have the beautiful warm glow of time and age and look gorgeous on a shelf or table.
1) Frederick and His Family by L. Muhlbach. [In English] translated from the German by Mrs. Chapman Coleman and her Daughters. Appleton Co., NY , 1910.
2) Henry the VIII and His Court or Catharine Parr L. Muhlbach. [In English] translated from the German by Rev H.N. Pierce, DD. Appleton Co., NY , 1910.
Description and condition of both books:
Maroon Half leather with marbled boards colored in lush shades of blue, maroon and cream and which have been given a mysterious moire effect - there are gilt decorations to spine. Top edge is gilt. Frontispiece photogravure with tissue protector. In both books, on the front paste-down, are the handsome bookplates of the original owner.
Covers and spine have some surface abrasion and chipping to both the leather sections and boards, especially at and along the edges. Page edges are dust-darkened and stained. Corners are abraded and bumped. Interior has some spotting to fixed endpapers, some light foxing and toning to pages.
Lovely old volumes for a shelf, desk or table!
