I carve my stamps on premium flexible rubber. The rubber I use is non-crumble and is thick enough to be used as is (unmounted) but can easily be mounted using an acrylic block and double sided tape. The stamp will have a faint ink stain on it. Don't freak out! Inking the stamp is a vital step in ensuring the image is just right.
Also, since the stamp is hand carved, not lasered by a machine somewhere in China, each stamp will be unique and ever so slightly different.
Use ink pads made for rubber stamps for best results. Rinse with warm water after each use.
