If you look around my shop you will see that I have a fondness for vintage asian pieces.
The workmanship in Chinese vintage is often truly amazing, and the design sensibility highly ornate, colourful and beautifully executed.
I love the dragons and the colours- aqua and red and yellow is a knockout combination. Every tooth is hand cut and padded and sewn on and then embroidered over. I love the glint of the little gold stitches on the scales.
I am a big fan of googly eyes on creatures and these dragons have lovely red and pink silk eyeballs with a silver sequin iris.
It says according to my translator, "Congratulations". So much nicer than a card!!
This is a tightly padded hand embroidered wall hanging meant to be hung proudly on the wall to remind one of good wishes for an achievement.
It is 16" (40cm) across and 13" (32.5cm) high and 1/4" (1cm) thick.
It is in good vintage condition. It may be older than 1950s.
It is a little bit dusty, a little bit faded some of the red coated wire have come unstuck (but could be sewn back in). The back of the dragons is discoloured from age.
This would make an extraordinary gift for someone, and would look great in a child's room!
