A beautiful melon coloured swirl tone on tone backing was used along with a Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20 cotton blend batting. The batting along with the very dense and heavy machine quilting make this quilt flat, more suited to a bed coverlet than a cuddle Quilt. However, this will soften up with the first washing.
The binding on Grandmas Fans is double fold, mitred at the corners and topstitched with a decorative stitch.
This Quilt was free motion machine quilted on a hand guided long arm quilting machine. I had fun with the quilting and no tools or stencils where used. Consequently the quilting is by no means "perfect" but it is very attractive and fitting for the pattern of this Quilt. I used a white thread on top and rose coloured thread in the bobbin.
Grandmas Fans measures 79" square and is shown covering the top of my king size bed.
