Lovely little shoes of Kid leather presumed to be from the 1890s or thereabouts. I purchased them here in Portland from my friend Deb who owns the Davis Cole Queen Anne Victorian Mansion down the street from me here in Portland, Oregon. Soft creamy colored kid leather shoe has pointed toe, Louis heels and straps that close with glass buttons, topped with silk ribbon bows with cut steel "buckles."
See where these shoes have spent the past several decades:
These shoes are marked 3 on the leather sole, but I let someone in my shop try these on. She wore a size 5 and they fit her well. Please check measurements to ensure a proper fit. All measurements (except heel height and volume) are taken inside the shoe.
-Insole: 8 7/8" (inside heel to toe. Note the pointy toe!)
-Ball of foot: 2.75" (widest point, inside of shoe)
-Heel width: 1 7/8"
-Heel Height: 1..75"
-Volume or vamp: 5.25"
(VOLUME: Using a flexible tape measure or piece of string, on one of your best fitting, similarly styled shoes, measure, with your foot in the shoe, from the welt stitch [where the sole is sewn to or attaches to the upper part of the shoe] on one side, up over the top of the foot to the opposite side at the welt stitch or attachment point of the sole to the upper. This measurement gives an idea of the “Volume” of your foot and the true size of it.)
Poor condition rating a 4 out of 10. But let's consider the age. I believe these have at least one more wearing left in them if not more. They appear to have been worn no more than once. Flaws to note include:
-Puncture holes in back of each heel
-Kid leather peeling on heels
-Some gouges and minor surface scratching throughout
-Silk ribbon bows are shattering
-Cut steel is discolored
