This is the first in a series of sculptures that I'm working on and plan to have showing within the next few weeks. Since most of my work is with "found wood" it's usually guess work when it comes to identifying the species. In this case I believe I started working with a piece of root from a coastal redwood that I found on the beach in southern Oregon. The base was carved from a Manzanita burl that I picked up at "It's a Burl" in Kerby, Or. Carving was done mostly with a Dremel, followed by hand sanding and a tung oil finish. The piece stands 13 1/2 inches tall, the base measures 8 x 5 x 3 inches.
