Hand stitched grey whale soft sculpture to remind you of the sea. This whale is made from repurposed cotton canvas and corduroy, and stuffed with locally sourced wool fleece. Approximately 12.5" long, this whale is one of a kind and handmade with care. Grey whales have mottled skin and are believed to carry more barnacles and other parasites than any other whale; there is even a species of barnacle specifically called the grey whale barnacle. This little guy is covered with decorative stitching to represent these imperfections - and it looks much nicer than taking home some parasites! Boro style patches (repurposed wool, silk and linen) with sashiko stitching take the mottled appearance a step further, giving this whale a very special character.
Grey whales migrate along the west coast of North America between Alaska and Mexico, spending time along the passages of Vancouver Island. They are famous for their extensive migrations, which are among the longest of any animal. Greys are most commonly seen along the west coast of the island in the Spring and Fall, but can spend all summer feeding here.
All items are made and stored in a smoke and pet-free home.
