it depicts a single giraffe standing in his uncoloured african milieu
the colouring is delicate yet meticulously accurate with 'true to life' detail
it measures aprox 6 x 9" with plenty of border for matting and framing
it comes from one of the finest natural history series titled "dictionaire universal d'histoire naturelle" published in the mid 19th century
the series featured most of the centuries top illustrators and engravers
and was written by one of the foremost french naturalist ~ d'orbigny
a copy of the title page with the date, publisher and engraver's information will be included with the print
