This astounding vintage Mexican necklace has a half-bodied Aztec or Mayan King pendant on a handmade copper, brass, and white metal link with colored glass beads chain. The face is comprised of carved stone or ceramic, and has a beautifully detailed copper helmet. The surrounding colorful enamel creates a headdress and earrings. There is an applied brass and copper rope detail at the bottom with two glass bead dangles. The back is all copper and is signed “COBRE” (copper) and “HECHO EN MEXICO” (Made in Mexico). The necklace fastens with a simple hook clasp.
It is in very good vintage condition with some copper polish residue, some minor scratches on the back, and someone’s inventory number also visible on the reverse (only if you’re looking for it). There are some irregularities in the enameling at the lower left chin, but it is all intact and not distracting. The copper is nicely toned. C. 1960's-70's, probably from Mexico City. This vibrant and detailed necklace speaks to me. I just love it!
SIZE: Pendant 3-3/4”H (including bale) x 2-1/4”W at the widest; the chain is approx. 12-3/4” per side or about 25-1/2+” L
