CONDITION: Appears unworn; overall excellent. After years of storage and being packed/unpacked, there was a small (about 1/4") hole on the upper right shoulder area, which I've neatly mended with matching wool yarn--see photo. No other flaws.
SIZE: Probably best for a small, but could fit an extra small to medium--if you want a very snug fit. It was a "relaxed" fit on our XS manni. BUT, don't go strictly by my estimate--use the measurements. We suggest you measure a similar garment you own to compare. We measured on outside of garment, laid flat, unstretched to comfortably stretched.
Bust: 34 1/2" to 37"; Waist: 30" to 32"; Around hem (above hip): 31" to 33"; Length: 20 3/4" down center back
SHIPPING NOTE: Cost includes insurance to most locations. Must ship USPS Priority Mail to some international locations in order to be covered. If you are an international customer and must have insurance, please contact me before ordering. We aren't responsible for your country's duty fees, and can't mark the item as a gift.
PROVENANCE: From the estate of Irene Saltern, who was for years head designer for Tabak of California, a leading California sportswear maker. She was a film costume designer in the 30s & 40s, and started designing commercially in the late 40s. The favorite designer of actress Martha Scott and dancer Ann Miller, she was a contemporary of Gilbert Adrian. During her long commercial career, she also designed for Phil Rose and other firms, including her own label. Ms. Saltern is widely credited for pioneering the separates for which the California sportswear industry was famous.
I purchased her estate collection, and likely have the largest private collection of hers around. Some items are runway samples, spec or sample pieces, and pieces from her own personal wardrobe. Ms. Saltern's timeless designs, along with their exquisite fabric selections and execution, make them eminently wearable today.
