There are three elements in this simple strand that are all stand outs for me. Featured is a collection of 7 Cobalt Blue African Trade Glass beads. These beads are quite old, dating back to the 1800's and are known as "dutch donuts". They are smooth edged and irregular, approximately 10 - 12mm across and range from 2mm - 4mm in thickness. These beads are classic trade beads introduced into the African trade market by Germany and represent status, position and currency. The strand is created using a favorite and a staple at my work table these days - rounded Vintage Tribal Brass squares. These small brass beads are irregular in size and measure about 2mm x 1.5mm. Tiny bicone shaped unpolished Lapis Lazuli beads are dotted at irregular intervals along the strand.
