This cabinet was designed and built for an avid tea drinker. She wanted to have easy access to the tea of her choice without sorting through a shelf full of boxes. She wanted accessible storage for individually packaged tea, pre-bagged tea and loose tea. We came up with this cabinet that she now enjoys using everytime she has tea.
This cabinet was made with Hard Maple and finished with a clear Danish oil. However, I now use clear shellac for the finish. Shellac is a natural finish which doesn't impart an odor to the tea. The case, front (which swings out) and drawers are constructed with dovetail joints for durability and style. Overall dimensions are 24 in. tall, 15 in. wide and 10 in. deep, she wanted it to fit on a shelf inside an existing pantry cabinet. This is a very compact design made as small as possible but to hold the greatest amount of tea for the space. If you have a larger space or want to hang it on the wall I can adjust the dimensions. More on that at the bottom. With the 16 front dispensers, 6 drawers and "wine rack style" bottle holder, it will store a total of 37 different teas.
The front is for individually packaged tea bags. When the tea leaf door latch on the right is moved over, the hinged front section, swings out to provide access to the drawers and bottles inside. Label holders on the front dispensers and drawers help to locate the tea you want. In this case she uses 12 oz. glass jelly jars in the bottle holder section and is working on labeling the plastic caps. It was designed to fit the 12 oz. jelly jars I mentioned, which are 2 1/2 in. wide by 5 1/2 in. tall. However, jars will not be included with the cabinet. Do to possible breakage and added shipping weight it's more practical for jars to be purchased separately. They can be found at many grocery stores, many hardware stores and most Walmart stores.
Previously this cabinet has not been designed to be mounted on the wall. If you want that option let me know and I can add the necessary parts. It is possible to set this cabinet on a counter or table top. I have found however that in some situations it can tip forward when the front is opened. To be safe it needs to be anchored in some way to avoid tipping
As I said the dimensions shown above are for a specific situation. If you have a larger space, want to mount it on the wall, have a certain size tin or jar you want to use we can make the cabinet a little larger. If you have some other change you would like to make, please contact me.
The lead time for this is about 4 weeks.
