The focus of the pendant is a large Czech glass coin bead in opaque turquoise blue, with an art nouveau style flower motif. I used back stitch to add concentric circles in black, blue and dark gold - some in solid rows and other in stripes. The coin bead is sewn in place and secured with a simple stacked bezel of seed beads. The edges of the pendant are finished with a picot fringe in turquoise blue.
The pendant is suspended by a simple seed bead loop from a striped St. Petersburg chain. I used black and turquoise seed beads in a striped pattern that provides a bold finish for the necklace. The chain is closed with a beaded button and loop clasp made from matching beads. The pendant is removable, so you can pair it with your favorite chain, or wear the necklace plain.
Dimensions: The embroidered pendant is 3.7 cm (1.5 inches) wide, and 4.5 cm (1.8 inches) long with the bail. The necklace chain is 44.5 cm (17.5 inches) long, including the clasp. The beaded button measures 1.6 cm (0.6 inches) across.
Traditionally, bead embroidery is done with animal hide such as leather, or polymer based synthetic suede. I stitch and back my designs with 100% wool felt, which provides a natural, sturdy beadwork base in beautifully rich colors. Other materials include Czech pressed glass, Japanese glass seed beads, and fused nylon thread.
This one of a kind design comes wrapped in tissue, packed securely with clean, repurposed bubble wrap or foam sheet, and shipped in a durable Canada Post cushion mailer.
