Each space has an inlaid wood block on which the shell is mounted. It comes ready for hanging. It requires a secure, heavy duty picture hook, nailed or screwed into a wood stud. You may find imitations of mine but they are simple, lacking my shell cutting skills, and are not usually framed. Mine are signed and dated by a former National Endowment for the Arts recipient.
