Encaustic painting is an ancient technique using beeswax, tree resin and pigment. Due to the preservative and moisture resistant qualities of beeswax, there are encaustic paintings today that are as old as 2,000 years. With some simple care your painting could last as long! There is no need to frame this painting, the luminous quality of the wax would not be revealed as well under glass. This piece has a smooth but organic texture that reminds me of mouth blown glass, complete with an occasional tiny bubble. It also has a faint and lovely smell of honey. This work has an underpainting in watercolor.
The unfinished wood sides are lightly oiled in clove oil, the aroma blending with the fragrance of honey from the beeswax.
The work will come ready to hang and signed on the back.

(note- while I think these paintings would look perfect on a fireplace mantle, if you intend to use the fireplace please test first that the mantle area does not get so hot it could damage the work. This applies to any art placed over a fireplace)
