WHAT IS ETHOPIAN WELO OPAL?: 100% Natural-Mined ETHIOPIAN WELO OPAL is a highly sought after and highly valued natural crystal Opal, known for it's wonderfully bright, flashy colors and INCREDIBLE Brilliance/Fire. It is new to the market, and was discovered only 2 years ago (in 2008) in the Welo Province, near Delanta in Ethiopia. It's source has the same geological formation as Australian Opal, and it looks very much like Australian Crystal Opal; which until this was found - was the only opal like it in the world.
There are other opal mines in Ethiopia, including the Mezezo Opal from the Showa Province; but these are nowhere near as stable as the find in Welo. The Welo Opal's beautiful white base provides the perfect contrast for it's rainbow of colors, and is much more attractive than the chocolate base in the Mezezo variety.
