Materials: Bookboard, Lokta archival handmade paper, permanent archival ink, unlined bright white 70 lb text paper, hand-dyed hand-waxed linen bookbinding thread, and a snippet of text from a novel.
This journal is the sixth in a series of original print covers on luscious Lokta paper (from Nepal). On this particular cover I used a linocut of a bird on a branch - carved in October 2011. The entirety of the front and back cover were first covered with a denim blue Lokta paper. I printed the bird onto a rectangle of hand-torn light green and affixed it to the front cover. The text at the bottom reads "along the trunks and branches, a seat of learning." The pages are hand-cut, rounded corners, with hand-dyed dark purple bookbinders thread. The Coptic style of stitch allows the book to open up flat, which is fantastic for writing and sketching!
